    Gianni Versace Born December 2, 1946, in Reggio di Calabria, Italy, Gianni Versace became one of the tops fashion designers of the 1980s and '90s. He launched his first clothing line in Milan, Italy, in 1978. In 1989, Versace debuted his first couture collection. He continued to add his fashion empire, expanding into home furnishings and perfumes. Throughout his career, Versace designed for such figures as Madonna, Prices Diana, Elton John and Tina Turner.                                    Medusa Greek Mythology The mythological and historical context surrounding Medusa is as fascinating as the coins themselves. The mythology can change depending on who in antiquity was telling it, but the basics of the most common version are this: Medusa was the only mortal among the three Gorgon sisters. Daughter of the sea gods Phorcys and Ceto, she was once a beautiful maiden but was turned into a snake-haired monster by Athena for sleeping with (or being ravaged by) Poseidon in Athena's temple. Men who looked at Medusa turned to stone.
